Bird Aerosystems to provide Control and Display System for HENSOLDT PrecISR™ Multi-Mode Radar

BIRD will customize its RCD (Radar Control and Display) system and MSIS mission management system to enable enhanced user capabilities tailored for the specific operational requirements of HENSOLDT’s PrecISR™ advanced multi-mode radar users

BIRD Aerosystems, a leading developer of Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) and Airborne Surveillance, Information, and Observation (ASIO) solutions, has received a follow-on contract to develop additional advanced capabilities for its RCD (Radar Control and Display) that controls HENSOLDT’ PrecISR™ advanced multi-mode radar family.

After successfully completing the first phase of development and customization of the RCD to the PrecISR™ earlier this year, the next phase of development has been agreed upon by the companies and will include developing specific and more advanced capabilities tailored for HENSOLDT customers.

The new capabilities to be implemented by the RCD include, for example, Dynamic SAR imagery footprints, control of multi-layered data visualization, and enhanced real-time radar information and status. Furthermore, the RCD system will be integrated with additional surveillance sensors used by the customers along with the HENSOLDT Radar (e.g., AIS and others).

The follow-on contract and the new capabilities that will be developed under this contract are all focused on customizing the RCD for new customers and programs. BIRD will also provide an ILS package that includes RCD training and system documentation, to be provided to HENSOLDT and its Customers.

PrecISR™ airborne surveillance radar is HENSOLDT’s latest technology response to tackle the challenges of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions at Air, Sea and Land.

Designed for a wide range of airborne platforms (UAVs, helicopters, fixed-wing and special mission aircraft), PrecISR™ is the ISR sensor of choice for armed and security forces to mitigate human and drug trafficking, piracy and smuggling, illegal fishing, terrorism, oil dumping or any other environmental threat.

PrecISR™ comprises of the newest generation gallium nitride AESA antenna technology with two-dimensional e-scan capability, combined with large bandwidth multi-channel radar core electronics and integrated radar signal processing. Even in the most challenging environmental conditions and sea states, PrecISR™ users will take advantage of an unrivaled level of situational awareness with significant flight cost savings.

Detecting, tracking and classifying more than a thousand objects, the PrecISR™ increases the surveillance capabilities and mission efficiency for any special mission aircraft.

The systems capabilities include:

AIR:  Detection and interception of small and low-flying aircraft above canopy or above stormy sea, gathering information on direction and speed of a flying target for correlation with data from other sensors, e.g. ADS-B and EO/IR.

  • Air Mode: Air Moving Target Indication (AMTI)

SEA: Detection and tracking from small to large targets in high sea states, indication of the target size, velocity and direction of the vessels as well as rapid identification of maritime vessels that do not have corresponding AIS or IFF signature.

  • Maritime Modes: OSL (Open Sea Long Range), MMTI (Maritime Moving Target Indication), ISAR (Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar), RP (Range profiling)

LAND: Tracking and plotting moving objects on the ground. Objects can be identified easily and changes in the environment can be detected by comparing previously captured SAR images.

  • Land Modes: Spot and Strip SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar), GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication)

More than a thousand targets on air, land and sea can be tracked at the same time.
